One Piece Boxset 1 (East Blue and Baroque Works arcs)

Hi ForeverBookers,

How are you all? I hope you're well!

I'm just here to sum up what I thought of the first two arcs of One Piece, the "East Blue" and the "Baroque Works" arcs.

Well, I LOVED rereading “One Piece” volumes 1-22! The characters certainly take us on an adventure. What I loved most, I think is that the characters are all different. We have Luffy, who’s the joker and the lead character — he wants to become King of the Pirates! Zolo, who’s stoic and serious, Nami, who will joke and have fun but also knows when to keep things serious (unlike Luffy), Usopp who is the practical joker, as well as other more minimal characters too! There are evil characters as there are with every series! These come in the form of Buggy the Clown and Alvida in the “East Blue saga,” and the Baroque Works agents in the “Baroque Works” arc! I found the evil characters funny too, especially Buggy and Alvida.

Luffy, as I said above wants to become King of the Pirates! To do this though, he needs to find himself a crew to sail with. He happens across Zolo, who is in prison at the time when Luffy finds him. Of course Luffy wants to rescue him. How does he envisage doing this? You’ll need to read to find out. He then needs to find a navigator. He chooses Nami for this role. She’s hesitant to be stuck with a bunch of pirates, but she is a thief so knows how to put up with them! Then there’s Usopp. I enjoyed reading about Usopp the most I think. He was the most entertaining character, apart from Luffy, as he’s always scared. I also enjoyed his back story the most. What with him being ‘in love’ with a character for years! Does he get his happily ever after with this character?  You’ll again need to read to find out for yourself. Sanji becomes the crew’s cook, unwillingly, at first.

The second arc, “Baroque Works” takes the story to a whole new level. In this arc we follow our Straw Hat pirates, as they come up against foes that mean to endanger the lives of others to take over Alabasta, a city in the desert. Can they do this or are the Straw Hats along with some help from Vivi, the Princess of Alabasta, able to stop them? You’ll need to read to find out for yourself!

Lastly, I just want to note the art style! I love shoujo art because it's cute but in One Piece the art is accessible and funny! I've only read from female mangaka before, other than reading One Piece a few years ago, this is a reread so I'm used to the cute art style. In One Piece Oda sensei is good at bringing the story to life with comedy and entertainment!

Overall, I loved rereading these arcs of One Piece. It reminded me WHY I love Shōunen anime so much! I DO love Shoujo as well of course, but Shōnen has a plot, whereas Shoujo doesn’t always. The plot to “One Piece” I can see just getting better and better as I go. I’ll read a couple of volumes of the “Skypea arc” (arc 3) sometime within April I expect, but I probably won’t have my review up until I finish arc 4!

Have you read "One Piece?" Let me know what you think about the first two arcs below if you have!

The Forest Of Adventures (The Knight Trilogy #1) by Katie M John

Hi ForeverBookers,  I have a new book to add to my list of favourites! The Forest Of Adventures is a great book if you love romance, adventure and history/fantasy as it has all of those elements.  This book is mature in some aspects so I'd say only age 16+ readers should read it. It doesn't get graphic but sex is still brought up.  We see from Mina's perspective throughout so the main girl in this story, who's seventeen years old. She's at college when she sits next to a boy, Blake Beldevier. He's a very charmingly mysterious guy. Mina is already in a relationship with Sam. A guy she's known from years before this book starts but she's attracted to Blake. When Sam sees Mina walking with Blake one afternoon at college, he gets angry and has a car crash. The rest of the book centres around this accident and Mina's relationship with Blake as well as other characters, her mother for instance who has always wanted Mina to marry Sam when she...

A Court Of Silver Flames (ACOTAR #5) by Sarah J Maas Review

Hi ForeverBookers,  How have you all been since the beginning of 2024? I haven’t checked in much, I know, but I’ve still been reading! Last night, I finished “A Court of Silver Flames” (“ACOSF”),  by Sarah J Maas, which I ABSOLUTELY ADORED! It was so, so, so, so, SOOOOO good!!!  It tells the story of Nesta, rather than Feyre, the character which the other “ACOTAR” books have all focused on. I honestly didn’t think I would like it much because I’m a total Feyre and the man she ends up with fangirl and I REALLY didn’t like Nesta in the other books or what there was of her, anyway, but OMG was I WRONG! Never judge a book, until you’ve read it, is all I’ll say… “ACOSF” is told from 3rd person POV which I thought I’d hate, because I like being inside the main female character’s head and seeing and feeling exactly what she is. Nesta, while told from 3rd person POV though, has a huge breakthrough with the reader, I believe. She was a very hateful character in the first b...

Brighid's Quest (Partholon Series #5 Review) by PC Cast Review

Hi ForeverBookers,  This book was good.  It took me about 150 pages to really get in to unfourtunately, and even then I really only enjoyed the last half of the book.  This tells more the story of centaur huntress Brighid, although we do see others stories' within this book as well.  Spoilers below! The first 100 or so pages have nothing to really do with the overall plot. It's just Brighid and Cuchulainn (Cu) going to find the femorians that killed Brenna, Cu's lost love. Cu is hell bent on redemption at first but when he gets to know the "new femorians" he doesn't want to hurt them as most of them are only children without parents. He wants to bring them back to find their own redemption at Macallan Castle with Clan Macallan. The new femorians are given the power of restoration by the Goddess Epona. This kind of does come into play right at the end of the novel but I didn't think we needed everything the author gave us to understand what Cu and Brighid w...
