Conquer Me (Royals Saga #2) by Geneva Lee Review

Hey ForeverBookers,

How are you all? I hope you’re well!

I’ve just finished “Conquer Me” by Geneva Lee and I bloody well LOVED it!

“Conquer Me” is the second book in the Royals series by Geneva Lee and it continues Clara and Alexander’s love story. Is it doomed before it’s even begun? I’ll let you read for yourself! That’s what this novel really focuses on, their differences and how and more importantly I think, if they can overcome those differences.

Alexander is heir to the British throne, and Clara is an American girl he met by chance at her graduation. This obviously throws problems in their way when they start a sexual liaison! An American commoner with a British royal! That just isn’t done…apart from in terms of this erotic literature, obviously! Can they work their way through these issues or do they consume them before their relationship even gets started? I’ll let you read for yourself!

I enjoyed the spicer scenes. Some authors can write them well. Geneva Lee is one of these authors. At least for me! There is therefore bad language, and sex scenes throughout.

I read “Conquer Me” for one readathon.

Opposites Attract - Clara and Alexander are opposites but are attracted to one another, more than attracted to each other, actuallly…

Spoilers below…

“Norris will look after Clara “because he’s the only one I trust with my family.”

Another time those words might have softened me, but now they only made me angry, reminding me of all I had to lose— if I ever had it all. “I’m not family. You don’t love me, remember? I’m just the tart you’re fucking.”

Here, Alexander wants Clara followed for her own protection. He trusts Norris, his personal guard more than anyone else. I enjoyed seeing Norris’s relationship with Alexander. Norris is definitely more of a father figure than King Albert, Alexander’s real father. Albert is a bastard! It’s revealed later that he’s been having sex with Pepper, a jealous girl around Clara’s age that wants to end her—not kill her, I don’t think but she wants to wreck her reputation and have Alexander to herself! Will she get her wish? I’ll let you read for yourself!

Clara isn’t sure whether or not Alexander truly loves her or whether he just wants to have his way with her and be done for the majority of “Conquer Me.” It’s only in the second half of the novel and at the end that Alexander makes his feelings truly clear!

“I understand the world you live in,” I whispered, “And I understand the world I live in. Right now I want to pretend that things can be different.”

Alexander slid his hands under my bottom and lifted me into his arms. “Then understand this. Clara, you are my world.”

Then he carried me to the bedroom and proved it was the truth.”

This is when Alexander makes his feelings truly known to Clara. He’s telling her she’s everything to him! I loved this. Clara only sees the differences between her and Alexander at the beginning of“Conquer Me.” It’s after this point of separation in the book that she starts to see how they could potentially work.

Another relationship that’s briefly touched upon is that of Edward, Alexander’s younger brother and David. They’re struggling to find their place in life. Can they or is their gay relationship over before it truly starts? Clara discovers her dad is having an affair too. We don’t know who with at this point and I can’t remember from when I read it years ago, so this’ll be a surprise to me too.

Pepper Winters is a jealous girl who wants Alexander for herself. She doesn’t care that he doesn’t love her. She just wants the reputation of being famous as the king in waiting’s wife!

“So let me see if I’m following you. I break up with him and this information goes away?” I clarified.

        “Exactly.”

I studied her for a moment. As ugly as she was on the inside, I couldn’t deny she was beautiful. Most women would find it intimidating just being near her. Everything about her screamed sex, but I’d seen her tone down her sensual appeal in favor of fitting in with the aristocracy. She was all too willing to play the part of perfect consort to Alexander. Too bad that I wasn’t about to let her. When we’d first met, she’d overwhelmed me, but now “that I saw her overeagerness I only felt sorry for her.

“Do you think if I leave him, he’ll run to you?” I asked her bluntly. “Let’s be honest for a moment. I left him this summer. Did he seek you out? Did he come running into your arms?”

Pepper blinked, her prim nose tilting into the air. “You don’t know Alexander at all. You don’t know what he’s capable of, and you don’t know what he needs.”

“I know that no matter how hard you try—no matter how often you throw yourself at his feet—he’ll never need you.”

She recoiled, visibly stung by my words, but Pepper wasn’t the type to cry. Instead she simply walked away, pausing a few steps from me to toss one more threat in my direction. “Remember this moment, Clara. Remember the moment you destroyed him.”

Clara hates Pepper! The threat Pepper makes - to wreck Alexander’s life, only makes Clara worried that she’s not enough for Alexander, which is of course what Pepper wants, even when she’s having sex with his father, the king! Clara knows this, however and she won’t give up Alexander for ANYONE! I loved her here. She’s going after what she wants and isn’t backing down! Go, girl!

“The crown might not offer her security, but I would. And someday my name would be her protector as well.”

We get Alexander’s POV in some chapters in “Conquer Me.” This was interesting as it showed us just how genuine he is about Clara, even when she has her doubts.

I believe the title really says it all. Clara and Alexander conquer one another, until they’re equals in bed as well as in life. Both of them know what lies ahead, but they’re not scared to try everything it takes to be together! This is true love! Overall then, I ADORED rereading “Conquer Me!”

I’m reading a quirky, crime fiction next, which is something new for me. My review should be up in a few days!

American Royals (#1 American Royals) by Katharine McGee review

Hey ForeverBookers,   I’ve just finished American Royals by Katherine McGee and I LOVED it! If you love scandal and complicated love stories in a contemporary setting, then you will love it as well! Think a royal version of Gossip Girl and you have this book in a nutshell. American Royals follows six characters, all of the new adult age range that come together to create a story of intrigue and romance. There isn’t high action or really a plot outside of the romance which was fine with me as I really enjoy stories just focused on the romance. I appreciated how “American Royals” only focused on the six different characters. There weren’t loads of personalities to get to know, and they all followed the same pattern as they’re all from or have grown up around a certain standing in society. This made the characters easy to follow and understand. It is a character led story, without as I said, much plot.  What there is of a plot of American Royals is taken up with the ascension of ...

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty Review

Hi ForeverBookers,  How are you all today? I've just finished a great contemporary book! 4 Stars! NOTE: There are scenes of abuse and bullying in Big Little Lies so if you're sensitive about either of those topics this book maybe isn't for you.  Big Little Lies tells several stories at once. There's the story about the trivia night that runs throughout, the story of who one of the main character's father is, the story of an abuse victim, a story of a teenage girl putting her virginity up for sail in the internet and the main story for most of the book, little children lying about who bullied another child. All these stories were handled well.  We see the characters, both major and minor be interviewed throughout because of the murder that happened on trivia night. I'll be honest in saying that at the beginning of the book I thought that another character had been killed so it was a surprise to read what actually had happened.  Spoilers belo...

City Of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments Book 2) by Cassandra Clare Review

Hi ForeverBookers,  I've just finished reading City Of Ashes and it was really good! I've read this book before again and I didn't think it was very good last time but now I think differently. It had everything from fighting demons, to laugh out loud parts, to heartfelt moments. The story starts from where City Of Bones finished so there will be minor spoilers below.  The characters continue developing in this second book. For example, Clary's best friend, Simon really takes on a new role as a vampire, as well as the other characters maturing too. This was good to see as it gave the story different levels that we haven't seen before. I especially enjoyed reading about Simon's transformations. There's a new character called Maia, who is a werewolf. There's some antagonism between Simon and her as in this series vampires and werewolves don't get on.   We meet Alec and Isabelle's parents here. Maryse, their mother is a strong character, who is angry...
