Clockwork Princess (The Infernal Devices #3) by Cassandra Clare Review

Hey ForeverBookers,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I found my in-depth review for Clockwork Princess, so here it is a little late, sorry!

I’ve just finished my reread of Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare and I’m very surprised to say that I LOVED it this time. I think the main reason I didn’t love it when I was a teenager was because I wanted to read spice then, and because I wasn’t an adult I couldn’t find any. Now, as an adult, I feel I can appreciate YA for what it is more.

5 Stars!

The plot takes us from 1847 York to Idris, the fated city in the world of the Shadowhunters. We start the plot with a battle where the Lightwoods father is trapped by a demon. The shadowhunters have to go to try to save him. Can they? This is only the beginning of the events of Clockwork Princess! I enjoyed this story a lot more than the other books. There was a lot more romance to Clockwork Princess than I remembered, which I really appreciated. There’s also a battle of wills if you like between the Consul and Charlotte, the head of the Institute in London. The Consul doesn’t want Charlotte inn charge as he believes that women have no place being in charge. Of course, a pregnant Charlotte, a woman in charge refutes that claim. Who wins? I’ll let you read for yourself but there’s some juicy arguments. Also, I’ll just touch on the love triangle briefly here. I HATE love triangles, always have done, ever since Twilight. Now, while I still think it would have been better without a love triangle all together, I can see how Cassandra Clare’s love triangle in this trilogy has its merits, unlike Stephanie Meyer’s in Twilight.

I read Clockwork Princess for a few readathons. They were:

Reading Rivalry - January 2026 - Book Featuring a Social Hierarchy - Clockwork Princess is a historical fantasy so it has elements of wealth as well as gender and society.

Spoilers Below…

“A fortnight?” Will’s voice rose; he was pale, with splotches of red standing out on his cheekbones. “Tessa was taken today. She does not have a fortnight.”

“The Magister wanted her unharmed. You know that, Will,” said Charlotte in a soft voice.

He also wants to marry her! Do you not think she would hate becoming his plaything more than she would hate death? She could be married tomorrow—”

“And to the devil with it if she is!” said the Consul. “One girl, who is not Nephlim, is not, cannot, be our priority!”

“She is my priority!” Will shouted.” - 226

This is Will’s reaction to Tessa being taken by the evil magister, who wanted and tried to capture her at the beginning of book 1, “Clockwork Angel.” Will is in love with her. This is revealed in the previous book, “Clockwork Prince.” Jem, his Parabatai or his best friend/other half, is in love with Tessa too. Who gets her? I’ll let you read for yourself but it gets interesting.

“If she is Jem’s fiancée, then I am duty bound to guard her as if she were my own. That is what it means to be parabatai.”

“Oh, yes.” The Consul’s voice dripped sarcasm. “Such loyalty is commendable.” He shook his head. “Herondales. As stubborn as rocks. I remember when your father wanted to marry your mother. Nothing would dissuade him, though she was no candidate for Ascension. I had hoped for more amenability in his children.”

“You’ll forgive my sister and myself if we do not agree,” said Will, “considering that if my father had been more amenable, as you say, we would not exist.”

The Consul shook his head. “This is a war,” he said. “Not a rescue.”

“And she is not just a girl,” said Charlotte. “She is a weapon in the hands of the enemy. I am telling you, Mortmain intends to use her against us.” - 227

This is Will’s plea to the Consul, the head of the Shadowhunters to help Tessa! Does he let the Shadowhunters save her? Or do they go against his will and just do it anyway? I’ll let you read for yourself again but it starts off a great adventure!

There are several different romances in Clockwork Princess. The main one is that which I’ve outlined above, between Tessa, Will and Jem. However, Cecily, Will’s sister comes into the plot and has a romance with one of the Lightwood brothers and a maid from the institute, Sophie falls for the other brother. I loved how the main focus of Clockwork Princess was the romance! It was to me like Clockwork Angel’s main plot was setting up the historical world, Clockwork Prince was the plot and Clockwork Princess was the romance! I LOVED it! Overall, I loved Clockwork Princess because it had twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. That’s probably one of the reasons I finished it in around 4 days! It was ADDICTIVE for me! If there was one downside or slog to the book it was Henry, Charlotte’s husband, the inventor. I found his parts boring but they were so few and far between that they didn’t alter my enjoyment of the novel as a whole. That’s why I’m giving Clockwork Princess 5 stars!

Her Majesty’s Royal Coven (HMRC #1) by Juno Dawson Review

Hey ForeverBookers, How are you all? Hope you’re good! I’ve just finished  “Her Majesty’s Royal Coven”  by Juno Dawson and I surprisingly really enjoyed it! I didn’t think I’d hate it but I thought it would be 3 stars, but it turns out it’s a 4 star read for me, maybe even a 4.5! It had a lot of things I like but some parts were forgettable, like the names of the lesser used characters. The plot, though was solid! I’m a character over plot person, as you’d know through reading my other reviews, but the main/most prominent character from this book, Niamh will be my favourite, I’m sure! I think that’s why I’ve rated  “Her Majesty’s Royal Coven”  so highly! 4 Stars! “Her Majesty’s Royal Coven”  tells the story of a coven of witches that need to save or at least help a young male witch who’s more than he seems. Niamh, who I’d say is the main character of the current witches has a twin sister called Ciara who has had her power stripped before the book starts! Why, yo...

American Royals (#1 American Royals) by Katharine McGee review

Hey ForeverBookers,   I’ve just finished American Royals by Katherine McGee and I LOVED it! If you love scandal and complicated love stories in a contemporary setting, then you will love it as well! Think a royal version of Gossip Girl and you have this book in a nutshell. American Royals follows six characters, all of the new adult age range that come together to create a story of intrigue and romance. There isn’t high action or really a plot outside of the romance which was fine with me as I really enjoy stories just focused on the romance. I appreciated how “American Royals” only focused on the six different characters. There weren’t loads of personalities to get to know, and they all followed the same pattern as they’re all from or have grown up around a certain standing in society. This made the characters easy to follow and understand. It is a character led story, without as I said, much plot.  What there is of a plot of American Royals is taken up with the ascension of ...
