Hi ForeverBookers,
How are you all? I hope you’re well!
I’ve just finished “Five Survive” by Holly Jackson, which I enjoyed.
“Five Survive” is a fast paced YA thriller. I haven’t read the A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder series, which the author is probably more well known for but I have “The Reappearance Of Rachel Price” sat on my shelf, which is again a YA standalone thriller. I read this in the space of 24 hours so it was fast paced. “Five Survive” is told over the time frame of “eight hours.”
I read 5 Survive for a couple of readathons. They were:
Reading Rivalry, the Facebook group I’m a part of - Angry Eyes - there are plenty of angry characters in this story.
Yellow cover - under the dust jacket the book is bright yellow!
I don’t want to write many spoilers for this book because it’s a thriller and I believe it’s best to experience the events first hand.
Spoilers Below…
Eight friends are on their way to summer camp. They’ve chosen to drive the way from Philadelphia to the Gulf Shores, when their other classmates have flown. There are plenty of arguments on this car journey ranging from the stupid to the serious. One of the “friends” is a twat and just annoys the others, while another is hiding a secret…what is that secret? I’ll let you read for yourself but I found that part skippable if I’m being honest. I was FAAAR more interested in the dynamics of the group than the past trauma, Red our FMC had. The only thing notable about her was that she lost her mom in a police raid. What does she uncover about this? I’ll let you read for yourself but it’s not the pinnacle of the plot.
The real pinnacle is there’s a sniper after this group of eight friends? Why links back to one of them? Which one? I’ll let you read for yourself but it was fun trying to uncover the mystery.
I don’t really have more to say about this book, which I think is the point of a thriller, to be honest. They’re quick and bingeable, like this one was. I prefer my fantasy worlds and magical characters than a thrilling time but it’s nice to switch it up every once in a while.
I’m reading a YA contemporary that’s been on my TBR for YEARS next.
