Hey ForeverBookers,
How are you all today? I hope you’re well!
I’ve just finished reading “Halloween Town” by Joss Wood and I highly enjoyed it!
Halloween Town follows the same group of characters as Summerween, which I read in August. Poppy McMaster is the FMC here, though. She’s a runaway bride at the beginning of “Halloween Town” because she didn’t want to marry her fiancé, Benji. Why? I’ll let you read for yourself. When Poppy comes back to Halloween Town after the failed wedding, she goes straight to Solstice Springs, her grandparent’s old lodge. What she doesn’t expect is to find Thom, her old friend, come love. Thom is also her ex’s brother! Can they work through things and be together?
I read Halloween Town for a few readathons, which were:
Reading Rivalry - A Sarcastic Sidekick - the ghosts in Halloween Town are pretty sarcastic, as is Luna the town major.
Spoilers Below…
“Solstice Deep was a cranky old bitch, but he loved her, and he preferred to wrestle with her down with people. Rebuilding the inn was far safer than rebuilding trust with his family or with anyone else.”
This is our MMC, Thom who’s just come back to Solstice Springs. He’s moved into Solstice Springs, his grandparents’ old lodge. Thom has some family drama. He just needs a break. Can he get that in Solstice Springs, where Halloween Town is set? Or does he just find trouble? I’ll let you read for yourself but I really enjoyed it.
Wren, the FMC from “Summerween” is Poppy’s best friend. She features more than Dane, her other half. Luna also features in Halloween Town. She’s just as entertaining as she was in book 1.
“Poppy didn’t need outside affirmation; she needed to get it from deep within herself. Ruby couldn’t allow her to let her guard down, to be fooled, to not see things clearly…
Ruby, knew this because she’d lived it.
For her, not realising her own worth had, literally, cost her life. I could not happen to Poppy…”
The ghosts have more of a role to play in “Halloween Town.” They try to help save Poppy from getting caught up in her relationship with Thom and try to make her see things clearly. I preferred them here to in “Summerween.” But do they succeed?
Overall, then I loved Halloween Town more than Summerween, although I did really like Summerween too. I liked the relationship dynamic more between Poppy and Thom than Wren and Dane. There was more story with Poppy and Thom who were childhood friends before they became more.
Stand by for my next review, coming soon…
