Hey ForeverBookers,
How are you all doing today? I hope you’re well!
I’ve just finished reading “The Right Move,” by Liz Tomforde, which I BLOODY ADORED!!!
5 Stars!
“The Right Move” is book 2 in “The Windy City series” by Liz Tomforde and it’s filled with trauma but hope as well. It follows Indy first, who is Stevie’s, the lead girl from book 1, “Mile High’s,” best friend. She needs somewhere else to live at the beginning of
“The Right Move” because at the end of “Mile High” her piece of **** ex cheated on her. She found him in bed with someone else. When Stevie suggests her brother’s apartment as her new residence, Indy isn’t sure at first. Enter Ryan, our MMC in “The Right Move” and things go from there…Indy wants children but was unsuccessful with her ex. Can Ryan be all that she needs? Or does she have to go the different lengths to get what she truly desires and more...I’ll let you read for yourself.
“The Right Move” is based around basketball, rather than ice hockey as “Mile High” was. I’ve not read a book surrounding basketball. I’ve read a few around Ice Hockey so it was nice to get a new sport.
“The Right Move” is told from both Indy and Ryan’s POV’s. I enjoyed this because it was good to see both sides of the relationship. I also loved seeing Ryan’s POV because he was my sort of man! The way he learnt to love through Indy was really special!
I read “The Right Move” for a readathon, which was:
Reading Rivalry - Confidence In Yourself No Matter What - Channel your inner avatar and show people how it’s done - both our FMC, Indy and our MMC, Ryan channel their inner themselves. Ryan in terms of basketball and Indy in terms of what she wants most!
NOTE: There are traumatic things that have happened to both Indy and Ryan separately but to do with babies before they meet! One apparently can’t have children and the other was cheated on by an ex and lied to about children. Do they overcome these things and become better versions of themselves?
Spoilers below…
“Why don’t you date?
Exhaling, I scrub my free hand over my head.
Fuck it. I already know I’m going to give her the not-so-pretty details one day. “The last woman I was in a relationship with tried to get knocked up so she’d get eighteen years of child support from me.”
Indy stays eerily silent.
“As if she did get pregnant with my child, I wouldn’t be involved.” I chuckle without much humor behind it.
“Ryan—”
“I’m fine.”
“No, you’re not. You won’t date because of that. That’s why you have a hard time trusting people? This is the woman from college?”
I nod, silently answering both questions.
In a rare moment, Indy is speechless., maybe picking up on the fact I don’t want to talk about this any longer. But she gives me her silent support through the squeeze of my hand.
“Will you tell me a secret now?” I ask.
“I don’t have many secrets. I’m kind of an open book if you couldn’t tell.”
“What are you saving money for?”
I can almost see the wheels turning in her head, contemplating this conversation.
“You don’t have to tell me.”
“No. No, it’s nothing to be secretive about and it’s nothing exciting. Just…promise me you won’t laugh.”
“Well, now I’m intrigued.”
Even through the darkness, with the stars illuminating her face a bit. I can see her looking away from me.
“I’m saving money to have my eggs frozen.”
This is the first bit of honesty between our MMC’s we get. They’re faking their relationship at first to get Ryan’s coach to believe he’s serious about taking his basketball team to the next level. I loved these parts. The whole story revolves around Indy and Ryan, just as “Mile High” focuses on Stevie and Zanders. I love how each book in “The Windy City” series focuses on an individual couple in this world. Indy opening up to Ryan above is the first moment we get of seeing how this couple will work together. I thought it was incredibly sweet!
The sex scenes were special for Indy and Ryan, I thought. The first scene was well over half-way through the book, so it’s truly a slow-burn, but it wasn’t boring in the run up as I often experience. It’s very clear than Ryan and Indy love each other before they tell each other. I love this in a plot—when you can see how much the characters mean to each other.
“No, Ind. you’ve turned it all back on and I can’t go back to pretending I don’t want you.” He kisses me slowly, savoring the moment before smiling into my lips. “Just be careful with me, yeah?”
He’s kidding, I know this, but there’s no denying I will be careful with Ryan Shay’s heart for as long as he let’s me have it.
I nod against him.
“Now use your words and tell me exactly how you want me to fuck you for the first time.”
Here, Ryan is in love with Indy. He’s come out and told her that. He wants her to be in charge of the sex they have. I thought this was empowering to Indy. It’s like he knows that she needs to be in control.
Overall, then “The Right Move” is one of my favourite books of the year! It had everything I look for in a good book.
