The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna Review

 Hey ForeverBookers,

How are you all today? I hope you’re good!

I’ve just finished reading “The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches” by Sangu Mandanna and I really enjoyed it! It wasn’t really a surprise that I would enjoy it to be honest, but it was very cute and had a few twists that I didn’t see coming!

“The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches” starts with our FMC, Mika Moon, a witch getting a call from the mysterious Nowhere House, a home for wayward girls. They want her to help them with the three young girls they have there, Altamira, Rosetta and Terracotta in controlling their magic. They have had to hide the girls away for fear of their powers being discovered. While there, at Nowhere House Mika learns a lot about family, redemption and love with a certain young man called Jamie.

Spoilers Below…

“It looked, frankly, like a small piece of heaven.

“It’s beautiful,” she said simply.

“Beautiful enough to move in at once?”

“Ian.”

Mika bit back another smile and held firm. “I still need my answers. You haven’t really explained why you need me.”

“Let’s go in,” said Ken, pushing open the door.”

Mika lingered for a moment, her eyes on the garden. She hadn’t imagined the magic at the gates. There was magic here, she could feel it, and it wasn’t just because she was here, either.

There couldn’t really be three young witches living here together, could there?”

At the beginning of “The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches,” Mika gets a phone call asking for her help with three young witches. She’s surprised, to say the least at this question but goes to see this place with the three witches. Ian is very eager for he to move in as is evident above. He almost pushes her into staying. Ken, his partner also wants Mika to move in but is a little less pushy. Witches aren’t meant to be together in this version of the world. They’re presence is too much for most ordinary folk in Mika’s experience, or so her mother figure, Primrose bought her up believing. Can the group of young witches change her mind about this?

“Mika had been five years old the first time she’d floated off the ground by accident. The next day, she’d had a new nanny and a rare unscheduled visit from Primrose.

It hadn’t happened much after that. She’d learned to quickly control that particular bit of magical mischief.

She’d also been alone. There had been much less magic around. Altamira, just seven years old, in a house with two other young witches and more magic than Mika had ever seen in one place, didn’t stand a chance.

But that was why she was here, wasn’t it?”

This is the first time Mika sees the magic that the girls can perform. It happens just because at the beginning or more to the point because the girls have no training. That’s what Mika is there to do! Can she? What obstacles get in her way? I’ll let you read for yourself but it was very sweet and cute. I loved the different personalities each young girl had. Rosetta seemed the most studious to me, Altamira was the hopeful one and Terracotta was the troublemaker.

Another less significant plot line is Primrose, Mika’s foster mother if you like, bringing her up with no intention of telling her anything about witches! I thought this was mean and unwarranted. Of course, Mika wants to know where she came from. Primrose refuses to tell her until almost the end of the book! There’s another secret to do with Primrose as well that I won’t spoil here, but let’s say it took me by surprise!

As well as helping the girls learn to control their magic, Mika of course falls in love in the story. She falls for Jamie, a bit of a recluse who likes to hide away in his library. Can Mika bring him out and get him to experience new things? I’ll let you read for yourself, but I found it very sweet!

Overall then, “The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches” was a great read. It had a little bit of everything I like in a good book. Could there have been more romance for me, yes, but I understand that romance isn’t everyone’s favourite thing in a book. Thats why I’m giving it 4 stars! I have the sequel “A Witch’s Guide to Magical Inkeeping” too, so I’ll give that a read sometime…

Stand by for my next review coming soon…

Heartless (Chestnut Springs #2) by Elsie Silver Review

Hey ForeverBookers,   I’m back! I’ve finished another book!  “ Heartless”   by Elsie Silver was AMAZING!!!! I absolutely LOVED it!!! This is book 2 in the “Chestnut Springs” series and it’s about Cade, Rhett’s brother from “Flawless,” #1, and his romance with Willa, Summer’s, from book 1’s best friend.  I read Heartless for a few readathons  Reading Rivalry - Multiple POV - “ Heartless” is told from both Willa and Cade’s perspectives. Always Fully Booked Reading Challenge - Book set in Canada - I   believe Chestnut Springs is set in the Rockies.   Always Fully Booked “On the Cover” Reading Challenge - A Musical Instrument - A guitar ! Willa, our FMC plays guitar.  Reading the Rainbow challenge - pastel - the background of the  “ Heartless”   cover is pastel blue!  “ Heartless”   had EVERYTHING I love, an FMC who’s stuck in life, a wild, yet sensitive MMC, funny moments, cute scenes, spicy scenes, heartfelt ...

Kiss Of The Basilisk (#1 Split and Swallow) by Lindsay Straube Review

Hey ForeverBookers,   I’ve just finished my favourite book of the year, thus far.  “Kiss Of The Basilisk”  by Lindsay Straube   is an   erotic masterpiece in my eyes! It brings together everything I love in a book…forbidden romance, well written erotic scenes, it was lengthy and the characters had depth. The only thing that slightly annoyed me was the FMC’s name, Tem. I liked her full name Temperance a lot more. “Kiss Of The Basilisk”  starts with our main character, Tem following a tradition of sorts. She’s to go to be trained to have sex with the prince by a basilisk. She only goes and falls in love with the basilisk she chooses! He loves her too. What does this mean for her relationship with the prince? You’ll have to read for yourself! There were soooooo many twists and turns in  “Kiss Of The Basilisk”  that I didn’t see coming so wasn’t sure where we would end up with our characters!  I kind of wished there was a pregnancy for Tem...

Rebound (The Pentagon Book 1) by Rosemary Rey Review

Hey ForeverBookers,  How are you all doing today? I hope you’re well!  I’ve just finished rereading Rebound by Rosemary Rey and I loved it! From recollection I loved it the first time I read it as well, about 5 years ago.  5 Stars! I read this for a few readathons: For Reading Rivalry - A book I think should be turned into a movie - I’d love to see this play out on television, actually but a movie is close enough.  For Litwits - A love story - that’s the central plot of Rebound and the whole Pentagon trilogy.  Literary Love Affair - Soulmate Love - Perla and Matt are what I class as realistic soulmates. Popsugar Reading Challenge 2019 - A book by an author whose first and last names start with the same letter - Rosemary Rey.  Rebound is set in America and is about an almost 30 year old woman, Perla Mercurio and a doctor, Matthias Keene who have a very passionate affair...do they fall in love??? You’ll have to read to find ...
