Mixed Signals by B.K Borison Review

 Hey ForeverBookers,

How are you all? I’m very hot in the UK heatwave.

I’ve just finished “Mixed Signals” by B.K. Borison and while I enjoyed it, it was quite tedious and not very memorable.

2.5 Stars!

“Mixed Signals” is told from both our main characters’ perspectives, like the other books in this series have been. It’s got a really simple plot, which made it kind of tedious to read as u said above. I would have liked a little more tension in the romance, rather than an easy time.

I read Mixed Signals for a few readathons. They were:

RR - Midfield - I’ve interpreted this as mid in terms of how much I liked the book. It wasn’t bad but it wasn’t great either. It was very midfield for me!

Always Fully Booked “On The Cover Challenge” - Fruit - there’s a strawberry on the cake.

Always Fully Booked “Reading Rainbow Challenge” - Rainbow/multi-colour - there are greens, reds, yellows on a peach background.

Spoilers Below

“For someone who is supposedly bad at dating, you’re awfully smooth.

The smile in his eyes slips to his mouth. I trace the angles of his face in the moonlight. “Just with you, Layla.”

       Bad at dating, my ass.”

Layla and Caleb are starting their ‘experiment’ here. The whole book is really based around, what happens if two people who aren’t dating at the start, then fall in love by the end. Thats what the experiment is. “Mixed Signals” therefore has a really simple plot.

There were however a few funny points. Like for example, when they go in their second date, to an escape room. Their first date was also a disaster, at a skating rink.

“We’re in the tropical island room, right?”

“Uh, no.” Eric continues scrolling on his device. I have no idea what he’s looking for. “Ee had to put you in the zombie apocalypse room.”

        “The what?”

        “The zombie apocalypse room.”

        “Why?”

“Because someone was doing weird stuff in the tropical room, and we needed to sanitise it.”

Layla’s tries to cover her laugh with a cough.

“Do you have anything other than .  . . zombie apocalypse?”

The end of the world scenario featuring flesh eating undead creatures is not the setting I was hoping for.” - 84

This is told from Caleb’s perspective. He wants to take Layla on a date to the tropical island room of an escape room complex, however that room is out of action. What they get in the zombie apocalypse room is funny.

The whole novel is basically made up of failed date attempts like that. Thats what the “Mixed Signals”were, I felt. It became a little tedious to read those after a while. I did enjoy it more towards the end when the characters had progressed a little in their relationship.

Overall, I found “Mixed Signals” very middle of the road. Put it this way, I’ll have forgotten the plot by this time next week. It wasn’t memorable at all to me, so while it wasn’t necessarily bad, it wasn’t what I find addictive, unfortunately. It could be put down and forgotten about quite easily. Thats why I’m giving Mixed Signals 2 stars! I think this book suffers from middle book syndrome. It was enjoyable because it was quick and easy but ultimately boring.

Heartless (Chestnut Springs #2) by Elsie Silver Review

Hey ForeverBookers,   I’m back! I’ve finished another book!  “ Heartless”   by Elsie Silver was AMAZING!!!! I absolutely LOVED it!!! This is book 2 in the “Chestnut Springs” series and it’s about Cade, Rhett’s brother from “Flawless,” #1, and his romance with Willa, Summer’s, from book 1’s best friend.  I read Heartless for a few readathons  Reading Rivalry - Multiple POV - “ Heartless” is told from both Willa and Cade’s perspectives. Always Fully Booked Reading Challenge - Book set in Canada - I   believe Chestnut Springs is set in the Rockies.   Always Fully Booked “On the Cover” Reading Challenge - A Musical Instrument - A guitar ! Willa, our FMC plays guitar.  Reading the Rainbow challenge - pastel - the background of the  “ Heartless”   cover is pastel blue!  “ Heartless”   had EVERYTHING I love, an FMC who’s stuck in life, a wild, yet sensitive MMC, funny moments, cute scenes, spicy scenes, heartfelt ...

Her Majesty’s Royal Coven (HMRC #1) by Juno Dawson Review

Hey ForeverBookers, How are you all? Hope you’re good! I’ve just finished  “Her Majesty’s Royal Coven”  by Juno Dawson and I surprisingly really enjoyed it! I didn’t think I’d hate it but I thought it would be 3 stars, but it turns out it’s a 4 star read for me, maybe even a 4.5! It had a lot of things I like but some parts were forgettable, like the names of the lesser used characters. The plot, though was solid! I’m a character over plot person, as you’d know through reading my other reviews, but the main/most prominent character from this book, Niamh will be my favourite, I’m sure! I think that’s why I’ve rated  “Her Majesty’s Royal Coven”  so highly! 4 Stars! “Her Majesty’s Royal Coven”  tells the story of a coven of witches that need to save or at least help a young male witch who’s more than he seems. Niamh, who I’d say is the main character of the current witches has a twin sister called Ciara who has had her power stripped before the book starts! Why, yo...

Rebound (The Pentagon Book 1) by Rosemary Rey Review

Hey ForeverBookers,  How are you all doing today? I hope you’re well!  I’ve just finished rereading Rebound by Rosemary Rey and I loved it! From recollection I loved it the first time I read it as well, about 5 years ago.  5 Stars! I read this for a few readathons: For Reading Rivalry - A book I think should be turned into a movie - I’d love to see this play out on television, actually but a movie is close enough.  For Litwits - A love story - that’s the central plot of Rebound and the whole Pentagon trilogy.  Literary Love Affair - Soulmate Love - Perla and Matt are what I class as realistic soulmates. Popsugar Reading Challenge 2019 - A book by an author whose first and last names start with the same letter - Rosemary Rey.  Rebound is set in America and is about an almost 30 year old woman, Perla Mercurio and a doctor, Matthias Keene who have a very passionate affair...do they fall in love??? You’ll have to read to find ...
