Favourite Books Of 2016!

Hey ForeverBookers, WOW! What a year 2016 was...I surpassed my Goodreads goal with 76 books (my goal was 75)...Here's my top 10 list of favourite books (I just read them in 2016. Not all were published in 2016). 10) Divine By Mistake by PC Cast - a mythological romance. It's ADULT. 9) The Hollow by Jessica Verday - a YA urban paranormal, using certain parts of The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow. 8) Crave Me by Geneva Lee - A contemporary ADULT love story. 7) Timeless by Gail Carriger - a cute and funny historical, paranormal story. I'd say this was adult too. 6) Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige - a great story featuring elements of The Wizard Of Oz. For aged +14 readers. 5) A Year And A Day by Isabelle Broom - a cute contemporary with enchanting and mystical elements. Could be a trigger for those who have gone through a loss though. 4) Ascend by Amanda Hocking - another great fantasy. I love the main couple in this. One scene that could be classed as new adult.

It wasn't until I woke up to my picture splashed on the cover of tabloids that I realized I knew who he was. Prince Alexander of Cambridge. Royal bad boy. Exiled heir to the throne. The Food Of Love by Amanda Prowse Review.

Hi ForeverBookers, First of all Happy Christmas for tomorrow guys! Sorry that I've been gone so long again. I've just finished a great book that deals with the struggle of anorexia that I got from NetGalley. NOTE: The Food Of Love should NOT be read solely by someone who is struggling with the disease I don't think as it's paints a really harsh reality at times to what the mental illness can do. The Food Of Love is a contemporary novel that tells the story of a family that go through anorexia, one of the worst things a family can go through... We start reading a scene in which the Braithwaite family are on holiday, years before the events of the rest of the book take place. Here, something happens to the youngest child, Lexi. Lexi is the one who years later suffers with Anorexia. Lexi just wants to look thin and pretty, like any girl. She doesn't believe she looks anywhere near  pretty or how a girl of her age should look. The rest of the book deals with L

Miss Treadway, And The Field Of Stars by Miranda Emmerson Review

Hi ForeverBookers,  I've just finished Miss Treadway, And The Field Of Stars and it was much better than I was expecting. I read this as a NetGalley arc so thank you to NetGalley for allowing me access. The actual book isn't released until 28th February 2017! (I'm writing this review in November of 2016).  4 Stars! NOTE: this is an ADULT book as characters are found in compromising positions and the language used isn't for under 16s, I'd say. We follow a number of characters as they try to piece together the disappearance of another character. This is another book based in and around England.  Spoilers below... Yolande Green is a well known actress at the beginning of the book. She's seen with Anna Treadway, the girl the title names in the first chapter as she comes of stage one night. After chapter one though the book becomes a mystery novel, as we, the readers don't know what's happened to Yolande Green either. I liked the con

A Year And A Day by Isabelle Broom Review

Hi ForeverBookers,  I've just finished one of the most enchanting, magical but real stories I've ever read!  NOTE: this book involves talk of cancer and suicide so if you're uncomfortable with either of those topics, maybe don't read it. Also sex is mentioned a couple of times throughout the novel. In this contemporary novel, we follow three couples as they go to Prague. Each couple has something to work through while in Prague. They all involve love in some way so this book was perfect for me. The title of this book all means something different to each character as well.  4.5 Stars (5 on Goodreads)! Slight spoilers below... The first couple we follow is Megan and Ollie, two young friends. They've come to Prague to be inspired. Megan for her photography work and Ollie for his job as a primary school teacher teacher. At first they're no more than good friends but this changes while they're in Prague. Are they together come the end of

All I Ever Wanted by Lucy Dillon Review.

Hi ForeverBookers, I'm sorry I haven't been here in a while...I was in a bit of a reading slump :(. Anyway, for the past week or so I've been reading All I Ever Wanted by Lucy Dillon, which I got as an E-arc through NetGalley. This book releases in December 1st, 2016. This is an ADULT book because it has some bad language towards the end.  Half of the story is basically the story of a family that go through trials and tribulations to work out how to be happy. The other half is about a woman, who's just lost her husband (not a spoiler as it happens in the first couple of chapters) learning to see the world as an open place, where anything can happen.  Spoilers below... We first see the family that go through a lot, together in London. It's not often that I've found a contemporary novel set in England, where I live. It was nice to see names of places that I recognise. There are the parents and two children, a boy and a girl in this story. They are pla

Dracula by Bram Stoker Review

Hi ForeverBookers, Wow! I did not expect Dracula to be as good as it was... Spoilers below... We start off seeing Jonathan in Transylvania looking for the Count's castle. People tell him to not go and to turn back but he feels he must go and see him to do business. He is taken to the castle by an old fellow with his horses. When he gets to the castle, Jonathan is welcomed in by the Count and is given a room. The Count wants to buy a house in England and they do that business. Then Jonathan is frightened by ghosts that haunt the castle. These ghosts turn out to be real women. Dracula is revealed to be evil in these scenes. He captures Jonathan and holds him prisoner. Back in England we follow Mina, Jonathan's wife and Lucy, Mina's best friend. For about 100 pages here, I was quite bored as nothing really happened. However after those 100 pages events picked up again. Lucy is killed by Dracula and it's obvious that Mina will end up drained if she's not pro

Timeless (Alexia Tarabotti Series Book 5) by Gail Carriger Review.

Hi ForeverBookers! Wow - I've just finished this series with the final book Timeless and it was REALLY good! 5 Stars! It's set a few years after Heartless, book 4 finishes. Alexia and Conall's daughter, Prudence is a toddler now. Both Alexia and Conall, along with Prudence and Ivy, and her family, as well as Madame Lefoux go to Egypt to see Matakana, an ancient vampire and to see what the God Breaker Plague is doing to the supernaturals in Egypt. The majority of the book is set in Egypt with these characters, however we still get a few scenes with the likes of Lyall, Biffy, two of Lord Maccon's pack as well as Lord Akeldama and Lady Kingair in England Spoilers below... The reason that Alexia and Conall go to Egypt is to try and uncover the truth behind their friend and pack member's death. When they get there, they're taken to see Matakana. She lives a horrible life, however. She has to keep living for her people as they would die if she died. However, s

The Bear And The Nightingale by Katherine Arden Review

Hi ForeverBookers, I got The Bear And The Nightingale for review from NetGalley but I only gave it 1.5 stars (2 on Goodreads). While I enjoyed certain elements of The Bear And The Nightingale, I found a lot of it to be quite confusing. The only thing that kept me reading was Vasya and her untoward behaviour to others as well as her relationships towards the end. I just skipped over the religious stuff as that didn't interest me in the slightest. The folkloric elements, while complex were again a little confusing. This is a book to be read around Halloween/Winter I think as some of the elements are rather creepy. Because of these creepy elements I'd say this is an ADULT novel as well. It's also set in a cold Russia.  I don't want to write spoilers at all in this review because I didn't understand all of the elements as I've said above and so there's every chance that I could get it wrong. I'd give this book a 1.5 stars (2 on Goodreads) b

Heartless (Alexia Tarabotti Book 4) by Gail Carriger Review

Hi ForeverBookers,  I've just finished reading Heartless and it was fantastic. 5 Stars! In Heartless, we follow Alexia Maccon again going through her pregnancy as well as trying to work out just who is threatening the queen. We also learn more of the relationships that the characters have or in some cases had to each other as well. Alexia's sister also makes some appearances too.  Spoilers below... I apologise if I miss some bits out here, but I suffered with a migraine for 2 days where I couldn't read... Anyway, Lady Alexia Maccon and Lord Conall Maccon are back together after the events of Blameless. Alexia is looking forward to the birth of her baby when she hears the news that she'll have to give her up for adoption to her best friend Lord Akeldama because of attacks that have been going on recently in London. This is of course once the baby is born. This I can see bringing up desperation for Alexia and Conall, wanting to see their child. Th

Blameless (Alexia Tarabotti Book 3) by Gail Carriger Review

Hey ForeverBookers, I've just finished Blameless and it was a little bit of a disappointment. 3 stars!  Spoilers below for Blameless and the previous books as well. I have a non spoiler review of Soulless (book 1) on here as well 😀).  Blameless starts as Lady Maccon has to move out of Woolsey, her husband's castle for being pregnant. The fact that she is pregnant is revealed at the end of Changeless (book 2). Lord Maccon doesn't believe that the baby is his because werewolves can't mate. However, it gets revealed later in the book why this has happened.  Alexia goes to Italy with Madame Lefoux and Floote, her manservant and friend to escape the rumours that she's been unfaithful to her husband, which of course isn't the case. In Italy, they try to find the answers about Alexia's condition and why she is now the way she is. They come across a scientist who is annoying and a religious sect, which is creepy. The scientist tries to help but for

Changeless (Alexia Tarabotti Book 2) by Gail Carriger Review

Hi ForeverBookers,  I've just finished Changeless by Gail Carriger and it was very good. I don't think I enjoyed it quite as much as I did Soulless but it was still an intriguing read.  4.5 stars (5 on Goodreads)!  NOTE: Changeless is again an ADULT book due to sexual situations. Changeless continues from where Soulless ended. We see Lord Conall Macon leave to take care of the business of his old pack having no Alpha anymore in Scotland, leaving his wife Alexia to take care of business at home in Woolsey Castle. This is challenging for Alexia because she was, before marrying Conall, thought to be forever a spinster (someone who won't marry) so she's not used to taking charge of a man's livelihood. Conall didn't inform Alexia of some things before he left. One of those being that all the werewolves camp out on Woolsey grounds at certain times of year. Alexia manages to get her head around this only to find that her mother has dumped her sister on her and that Con

Soulless (Alexia Tarabotti Book 1) by Gail Carriger Review

Hey ForeverBookers, I'm sorry that I haven't been here is ages! I've been in a major reading slump as well as not really having time to read. This is why I haven't read a book (apart from manga) in a few months.  Anyway, Soulless is just what I needed to get me back into reading! It was great! We follow Alexia Tarabotti, who is soulless, a trait that few in this world of 18th century, Britain are born with (hence, the title of the book). Alexia is a spinster, meaning she won't marry. She's over age 25 and in the 18th century women were expected to marry really young. Her mother has already resigned herself to the fact that Alexia won't interest any man so she has put her "on the shelf" so to speak. This is an ADULT book due to some sexual situations more than anything else. While at a party, the 18th century had lots for girls to meet other people, Alexia comes across a vampire who tries to hurt her. Miss Tarabotti, as Alexia is known throughout th

The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee

Hi ForeverBookers,  I've just finished The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee and I thought is was a GREAT start to a series! I got an E-arc from NetGalley. The release date is 30th August 2016. At first I thought it was going to be a dystopian novel but I hadn't read that it was a cross between Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars set in the future so if I'd have read that I would have gone into it knowing what it was about more. It certainly starts off as more Gossip Girl and goes to Pretty Little Liars as you go through. I don't like dystopian so that's why I thought I wouldn't like it. When it started it gave me dystopian vibes as well. It became more of a contemporary set in the future as it went along.  You're reading from 5 different perspectives, which is quite unique in YA/NA reads. These different perspectives range from the weak (at the bottom of the tower, to the rich (at the top of the tower).  There are scenes of a sexual nature (although nothi

A Court Of Mist And Fury (A Court Of Thorns And Roses Book 2) by Sarah J Mass Review

WOW! I LOVED this book SO MUCH! I can already tell it'll be one of my favourites of the year! If you didn't really like ACOTAR (Book 1) I still highly suggest reading book 2 as it takes the characters and their stories to new heights. It took me 2 days to read and was just over 600 pages!  5 stars (even though I wish I could have given it more again).  I much preferred ACOMAF to ACOTAR, even though I still gave the first book 5 stars.  It's a Hades and Persephone retelling. I'm not sure just how much Hades and Persephone went into it as I don't know that story. But based on how much Beauty And The Beast went into ACOTAR (book 1), the second book is its own story just with elements of Hades and Persephone.  The book is split into three separate parts. The House Of Beasts, The House of Wind and The House Of Mist. These titles are explained in their chapters.  Spoilers below... We follow Feyre, in first person narrative again as in book 1 as she struggles to live withi

Ascend (Trylle Trilogy Book 3) by Amanda Hocking Review

Hi readers, I've just finished Ascend, the final book in the Trylle trilogy and I LOVED it!  5 stars (it would be more if I could)!  This again carries the plot on from Torn. There are twists that I didn't see coming to be honest.  Spoilers below.  At the end of Torn we saw Wendy having to decide whether or not to go to war against her father. She does go to war because it's the only way to end the fighting between everyone. The actual fighting only takes a couple of chapters to get through, which I liked.  What this book really focuses on is that we all need to help each other get through hard things in life sometimes. For example, when Wendy's mother dies everyone rallies round to help her through the pain. And in the planning of the fight as well.  Elora's death was actually more small scale than I thought it would be. I thought Wendy would be crying for lots of chapters afterwards but she wasn't, which was refreshing. She knew she still had her priorities, t

Torn (Trylle Trilogy Book 2) by Amanda Hocking Review

Hi ForeverBookers, I've just finished Torn, and wow - I loved it even more than Switched (Book 1).  I'm giving Torn 5 stars!  It carries Wendy's story on as she tries to learn enough to become the Queen of Trylle one day in the future.  Spoilers below, especially if you haven't read book 1.  This book starts back in the human world because Wendy couldn't handle being royalty at the end of Switched. Matt, Wendy's brotherly figure is in fact meeting his true sibling Rhys for the first time. Then they get captured by the evil Vittra.  They're taken to the Vittra palace. Here, we learn that Wendy's father is actually the King of the Vittra meaning that she's half Trylle and half Vittra. The author explains this well.  Before they were captured Loki, one of the Vittra spoke to Wendy. While at the Vittra prison he lets Wendy look around and familiarise herself with the place in case she wanted to stay. She also meets her father, who doesn't seem so bad

Switched (Trylle Trilogy Book 1) by Amanda Hocking Review

Hey ForeverBookers, I'm back to reading things now 😃. I've just finished Switched by Amanda Hocking and I LOVED it!!  It tells the story of Wendy, a girl who isn't what she's always thought she was. It's told from her narrative, which I appreciated as I like to be inside the heads of the main characters I read about. Spoilers below... Wendy, doesn't feel like she's normal at the start of Switched because ever since her "mother" tried to kill her when she was six years old she's known she was different. This is because she's in fact a Trylle, creatures that resemble humans but with slight differences and more abilities. She's being followed by a guy who we later learn in Finn, the tracker sent by the Trylle to keep Wendy safe.  Wendy was swapped or "switched" at birth. Wendy's "mother", Kim knew she was having a son but when Wendy turned out to be a girl Kim hated her. Wendy's brother, Matt protected her, not
